Top AE's Have a Better Job than VP Sales
Oct 11, 2024 Being a top AE is better than being a Sales Manager, Director, or VP.
The title might not bring as much ego, clout, or rizz.
But just about everything else is better.
1. You don't rely on others for your success
2. Others don't rely on you for their success
3. You can have an off day and no one cares
4. People don't come to you with their problems
5. You don't need to attend a dozen 1on1's each week
6. You don't need to deal with the CEO, CFO, or HR
The OTE packages may seem higher for sales leadership roles, but the actual earnings are usually lower than the top AE's because the quota attainment is lower.
Especially working remote, the enjoyment of sales leadership is not nearly the same as in the office, and even then it's super hard.
If you're a top AE, probably keep doing that
As the saying goes, the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
This is quite often true with sales leadership roles
If you don't truly love teaching and leading people then it's not worth it.
If money is your main motivator, especially in 2024, consider doubling down on becoming a top producing AE.
