1. Focus on what's in your control and ignore the rest. Stay low stress by caring only about things you can control and maximize your time by wasting none of it on nonsense.
2. Work only for leadership whom you respect. A lot of unnecessary stresses in sales come from choosing the wrong place of employment. If you have constant gripes with your leadership, either you're in the wrong and need a mindset adjustment or you need to work elsewhere for folks you respect.
3. Sell something you can actually get behind. It doesn't mean you need to be a customer of what you're selling, but you need to find some level of passion in the product, service, or larger mission it serves. Without that, being genuine in your interactions won't be possible.
If I could only add one thing to this list, it would be:
4. Make a long-term career plan and stick with it. Sales is an emotional roller coaster and we can go from loving our job to hating day over day. Allowing these emotions to distract us too frequently becomes the greatest blocker of sales success.
Make a plan for at least the next 24 months and stick with it, then revisit the topic later down the road. This is much better than constantly questioning your job every time things get tough. Allow yourself the mental freedom of resting the tough career questions and only revisiting them on a schedule that makes sense.
