Here's What Sales Taught Me So Far
Aug 03, 2024Sales taught me how to:
-Exit my comfort zone and not care
-Establish rapport with strangers
-Manage myself like a business
-Become ruthlessly efficient
-Get what I need by asking for it
-Understand human psychology
-Turn things or ideas into money
Even after all of this learning (and there's plenty more), still the greatest wow-moment in my sales career was the very first time I got a stranger to give me their credit card over the phone.
I realized in that moment, if I can call a stranger and 24 hours later they're reading me their credit card...
There's not much I can't do with this new ability.
We may not love every second of being a salesperson, but we love the empowerment and independence it brings into our lives.
Sales ability is an unfair life advantage, period.
People often make comments that consultants and advisors are "out of the game" and disconnected from the sales realm.
What they fail to realize is that we are pitching ourselves every day.
We don't just do our own marketing but we also prospect to find new business, run discovery calls, qualify prospects, pitch our services, and close deals, but we're also responsible at the same time for fulfilling those commitments and delivering the services.
The irony is, as a consultant we do more selling than we do in a VP Sales role because there is no team to delegate to, it's just us.
Happy Selling,
